Embrassing complexity & truth
Using stage language, music, theater, and movement, my work consists of reinventing repertoire and forms through a contemporary lens. This interdisciplinary approach is the foundation of my practice, which aims to reveal the inner worlds that motivate human behavior: bodies, voices, and images co-create meaning and shape an atmosphere that is both meticulous and cinematic. “Rereading”—meaning looking again, looking differently—is at the heart of my practice: it questions inherited narratives and offers perspectives that resonate with today’s audiences.

About Mária
Mária Devitzaki is a Luxembourgish-Greek soprano, stage director, choir conductor, and doctoral candidate in Opera and Performing Arts at the University of Macedonia. She has built a multifaceted career across Europe and Asia, and she collaborates with all major cultural institutions in Luxembourg.

Opera singer
As a singer, I seek to transcend not only my voice, but also the character, in order to convey powerful emotions and interpretations.
Stage director
Directing involves reinterpreting through the artistic language that connects theater, voice, and body, and giving an updated perspective on the texts.
Choir conductor
I sculpt the voices of vocal ensembles to create something harmonious and beautiful. Through my posture, I am the link that connects the singers and the music.
Researcher
I question archetypes and the representation of women on stage, reinterpreting stories with sincerity, nuance, and complexity to move away from caricatures and stereotypes.
